On Dec. 2, 2009, Lady and I lost her battle with cancer, which we found out she had a little over a month before on her 11th birthday. What started out to be a day of celebration ended up being the beginning of such sadness that I have known only from losing my father to cancer 10 years ago. I know from that grief that this horrible pain of losing Lady will never go away. It will eventually overcome me less frequently but never less intensely.
She was a beautiful black miniature poodle with incredibly expressive eyes that were blacker than black. She and I shared a profound and unique love. We understood each other completely even without words, although I talked to her a lot all her life; we listened to each other and responded in our own ways. Her intelligence was matched by her complete devotion which I returned. I love her so much and miss her beyond words. She and I were so happy in each other's love. Why did this perfect, sweet, loving little dog have to die so young!?! There is no answer to this, I know, but the question haunts me.
Lady, my beloved Lady, we will be together again one day. Your ashes will be mixed in with mine and we will be buried together.
